For your diary.

Well done for making it to this page of the newspaper. I can guarantee that one thing you are not short of is information. It screams at you and me from every page, through television screens and of course the internet.

Within all this information are gems of wisdom which assist us in living life better. There is no doubt that we all have enough tips and techniques floating around in our minds which if put into practice would make our lives more enjoyable and productive. So why do people like you and I see so little improvement to our all too often mundane days. The simple answer is that “knowing things” will never make a difference if it doesn’t affect our diaries.

For anything to change it has to make it into your diary in order for you to give time to it. Here are some examples; Knowing you need to show more affection to your children is not enough – you will have to plan some “child time” into your day; Men, if you want to bring a spark back into your marriage, then plan 10 minutes a week to buy a bunch of flowers for your partner; If you’re pressured by a heavy workload then you might benefit by a 30 minute slot on each Monday morning planning your week carefully.

In order to give yourself a chance of having a truly fulfilling life experience let me recommend two more tips; Plan a trip to a church each weekend and allow yourself to experience the wonder of a powerful and loving God; lastly, spend just one minute at the start of each morning asking God to reveal something important to you through the day. If you don’t believe in God, try it anyway, He believes in you.

Service with a Smile

Have you ever visited a store or perhaps a restaurant where the service you received was spoiled by just one thing – the lack of a smile from those serving you. It is amazing how such a small thing can negate an otherwise satisfactory experience.

I wonder if God ever watches us going about our Christian business and longs for a smile to go along with it.

Far too many believers use their talents and gifts for God but seem to reap no joy; only discontent or frustration. Perhaps you are one of them. Trapped in a place of lifeless servitude rather than joyful servanthood.

In my message “Service with a Smile” you can discover simple ways to break through this barrier and enhance your life, resource the church and impact your community. No great leaps of faith are required – just small changes to our behaviour and mindset.

Thanks for visiting the revster.com.

Happy listening and God bless.

In the Nick of Time

Have you ever wondered why when you seem to be doing everything right and praying with all the faith you can muster, God just doesn’t seem to come through the way you want Him too. Of course you have. And you’re in good company because whether they admit it or not the vast majority of Christians, even the world famous ones, are in the same boat.

Recently, I preached a sermon rather catchily named “In the Nick of Time”. I know it’s not original and that a Movie and T.V series got there before me but it sort of did the job.

The point of the sermon was to help good people like you and I realise something we ought to know but often don’t.

God knows what He’s doing, and in the main, we don’t know what He’s doing.

The phrase “The Nick of Time” is used by people to describe something that happened at the last possible moment. James Bond was rescued from being split in half by the laser of Goldfinger in “the nick of time” – the last possible moment. The damsel in distress in silent movies was always rescued from being struck by a train at the last possible moment.  We sometimes hear testimonies in our churches from people who were in financially desperate times when God came through “in the nick of time” and provided money at the last possible moment.

Yet there is something really wrong here, because “The Nick of Time” never really meant the “last possible moment”. It was a phrase first used when time was measured by expertly made wooden timepieces, perhaps sundials or sandglasses. To mark a specific time the creator of the timepiece would make a “V” shaped cut, a “nick” in the the wood. Once the shadow of the sundial or the sand in the sandglass reached that “nick” it was said to be “in the nick of time”. In other words the correct meaning of the phrase “in the nick of time” is “the critical or precise moment”.

I believe it is here, in critical and precise moments that God operates.

The fact that sometimes these moments seem “late” to us is not the point. God is never late. Nor is He ever early. He is always right on time bringing things to be in the critical and precise moments of your life.

In my message I help you discover how to find real peace in God’s timing and finally get rid of that frustration that gnaws away at you when you don’t get what you want when you want it. You can listen to the message by clicking here and selecting “The Nick of Time”
